Greenwich Village

Greenwich Village, in New York often simply called "the Village", is a largely residential neighborhood on the west side of Downtown Manhattan in New York City. A large majority of the district is home to wealthy and upper middle class families. Greenwich Village, however, was known in the late 19th to mid 20th centuries as an artists' haven, the bohemian capital, and the East Coast birthplace of the Beat movement. What provided the initial attractive character of the community eventually contributed to its gentrification and commercialization. The neighborhood is bordered by Broadway to the East, the Hudson River to the West, Houston Street to the South, and 14th Street to the North. The neighborhoods surrounding it are the East Village and NoHo to the East, SoHo to the south, and Union Square, Flatiron, and  Chelsea to the North.

The Village's commercial character tends to be extensions of the bordering neighborhoods, from the Norther portion which essentially maintains the Office space charachter of Union Square office spaces and benefiting from the USQ transportation nexus of the subway lines. In the Southern portion fo the Village and along Broadway the  spaces tend to be similar to SOHO office spaces and lofts in character with a few higher end office buildings interspersed into the mix.
